Larry Humes (born April 24, 1944) is a former American basketball player and one of the greatest players in University of Evansville history. A native of Madison, Indiana, Humes came to Evansville after being named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1962.

University of Evansville

Humes starred for coach Arad McCutchan and the Purple Aces from 1963 to 1966. Alongside Jerry Sloan, he helped lead Evansville to consecutive NCAA College Division national championships in 1964 and 1965. The 1964–65 team finished a perfect 29–0.

Humes was a two-time First-Team College Division All-American and finished his Evansville career with 2,236 points, a school record that stood for nearly 50 years. His No. 50 jersey has been retired by the University of Evansville.

After college, Humes was selected in the 1966 NBA Draft and later spent decades in education and coaching.

Legacy

Humes was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991, the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2020.

His scoring, All-American honors and role on two national championship teams make Humes one of the most important players in the history of Evansville basketball.
