Molly Newman is an American playwright, television writer and producer from Evansville, Indiana. She graduated from Evansville Day School in 1972 before pursuing a career in theater and television.

Career

Newman gained national recognition as co-writer of the musical Quilters, which opened on Broadway in 1984. Newman and collaborator Barbara Damashek were nominated for the 1985 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for the production.

She later built a successful career in television, writing and producing for series including The Larry Sanders Show, Frasier, Murphy Brown, Tracey Takes On…, Brothers & Sisters, Political Animals and Code Black.

Newman won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1997 as a producer of HBO’s Tracey Takes On… and received five Emmy nominations during her television career.

Her success on Broadway and in television makes Newman one of the more accomplished writers and producers from the Evansville area.
