Charles H. Bundrant (1941–2021) was an American businessman and founder of Trident Seafoods, one of the largest seafood companies in the United States. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated from North High School.

Early life

Bundrant grew up on Darmstadt Road in Evansville and attended Stringtown Elementary School and North High School. As a teenager, he worked at Economy Foods across from North High School, stocking shelves and bagging groceries.

After briefly attending Middle Tennessee State University, Bundrant left college and traveled to Alaska to pursue opportunities in the fishing industry.

Trident Seafoods

In 1973, Bundrant and two partners founded Trident Seafoods with a single crab boat. The company grew into a major seafood harvesting and processing business with operations throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Bundrant helped pioneer the use of vessels that could both catch and process crab at sea. Trident eventually became a major producer of pollock, salmon, crab and other seafood sold throughout the United States.

Evansville connection

Despite building his career in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, Bundrant maintained ties to Evansville and supported his alma mater, North High School.

In 2010, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the EVSC Foundation Hall of Fame.

His contributions to North High School are recognized through several facilities on the school’s campus, including Bundrant Stadium and the Charles L. and Algie M. Bundrant Media Center, named in honor of his parents.

Bundrant died in 2021 at the age of 79.
