Evansville, Indiana, has a long and celebrated high school basketball tradition. Generations of players from the city’s public and private schools have produced memorable teams, college basketball players and some of the most prolific scorers in Indiana high school basketball history.

Tyler Myers – 2,835 Points*
Tyler Myers became Evansville’s career scoring leader during his senior season at Evansville Day School.
Myers surpassed former Bosse star Mekhi Lairy in December 2022, scoring 36 points against Tell City to move past Lairy’s previous city record of 2,237 points.
He finished his Day School career with 2,835 points according to the IHSAA record book.
Mekhi Lairy – 2,237 Points
Mekhi Lairy starred at Bosse from 2014 to 2018 and finished his career with 2,237 points.
Lairy broke Jeremy Willis’ longstanding Evansville scoring record during his senior season in 2018. His Bosse teams also reached the IHSAA Class 3A state championship game twice.
Lairy went on to play NCAA Division I basketball at Miami University in Ohio.
Jeremy Willis – 1,899 Points
Jeremy Willis scored 1,899 career points at Evansville Day School, breaking the previous city record held by North star Bob Ford.
Willis held Evansville’s career scoring record for 19 years, from 1999 until Lairy surpassed him in 2018.
He later became a high school basketball coach, including serving as head coach at Boonville High School.
Bob Ford – 1,815 Points
Bob Ford established one of Evansville basketball’s longest-standing records while playing at North High School.
Ford finished his career in 1968 with 1,815 points. His city scoring record stood for approximately 31 years before Willis surpassed it in 1999.
Clinton Keown – 1,766 Points
Clinton Keown was one of the most accomplished players in Memorial High School basketball history.
Keown finished his Memorial career in 1998 with 1,766 points, placing him among Evansville’s five highest-scoring boys basketball players.
He later played college basketball at the University of Evansville.
A Record Passed Through Generations
Evansville’s career scoring record provides an interesting timeline through several generations of local basketball.
For decades, Bob Ford’s 1,815 points represented the standard. Jeremy Willis surpassed Ford in 1999 and raised the record to 1,899.
Willis’ record survived for another 19 years before Mekhi Lairy reached 2,237 points at Bosse.
Less than five years later, Tyler Myers passed Lairy while playing at Evansville Day School and ultimately finished with more than 2,800 career points.

Brothers on the List
Harrison High School produced a particularly unusual accomplishment with brothers Ernie Duncan and Everett Duncan.
Everett finished with 1,551 career points, while Ernie scored 1,498. Both rank among Evansville’s leading career scorers.
Ernie later played at the University of Vermont, while Everett also continued his basketball career at Vermont.

***** Tyler Myers played at Evansville Day School, which does not compete in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference (SIAC) alongside Evansville’s larger public and parochial high schools. As a result, Day School’s schedule differed considerably from those of many other players on this list and included competition against smaller schools. This difference in conference affiliation and strength of schedule has led to debate among local basketball followers about how Myers’ career scoring total should be compared with players who competed primarily against SIAC opponents. His 2,835 career points nevertheless remain the recognized Evansville career scoring record.*****
