David Emge (September 9, 1946 – January 20, 2024) was an American actor from Evansville, Indiana, best known for playing Stephen “Flyboy” Andrews in George A. Romero’s 1978 horror classic Dawn of the Dead.

Emge was born and raised in Evansville and attended Reitz High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in drama from the University of Evansville. While at UE, he studied and performed alongside fellow Evansville actor Ron Glass.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Emge pursued acting and eventually moved to New York City. While working as a chef, he met director George A. Romero, who cast him in Dawn of the Dead. The film became one of the most influential zombie films ever made and earned Emge a lasting following among horror fans.

Emge later returned to Evansville and made occasional appearances at horror and film conventions. He died in Evansville on January 20, 2024, at age 77.
