Aaron Patzer

Aaron Patzer (born November 20, 1980) is an American technology entrepreneur best known as the founder of Mint.com, the personal finance website acquired by Intuit for approximately $170 million in 2009. Patzer grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated from Central High School.

Evansville and Education

Patzer was born in Madison, Wisconsin, but attended Central High School in Evansville.

He later attended Duke University, graduating in 2002 with degrees in electrical engineering, computer engineering and computer science. He continued his education at Princeton University, earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

Mint.com

Patzer founded Mint.com in 2006 after becoming frustrated with the complexity of existing personal-finance software.

He initially developed much of the service himself and launched Mint publicly at the TechCrunch40 conference in 2007, where it won the event’s $50,000 top prize.

Mint grew rapidly into one of the country’s most popular personal-finance platforms, allowing users to track bank accounts, investments, spending and budgets in one place.

In 2009, Intuit acquired Mint for approximately $170 million. Patzer subsequently joined Intuit and served as Vice President of Product Innovation.

Mint eventually grew to tens of millions of users before Intuit discontinued the service in 2024.

Fountain

After leaving Intuit, Patzer founded another technology company, Fountain, an app designed to connect users with experts who could provide advice through smartphones.

Fountain raised several million dollars from investors and was acquired by home-services company Porch in 2015.

Vital Software

Patzer later turned his attention to healthcare technology and artificial intelligence.

He co-founded Vital Software with emergency medicine physician Dr. Justin Schrager. Vital develops AI-powered software designed to improve the experience of patients and healthcare workers in emergency departments and hospitals.

The technology provides patients with information such as wait times, test and lab statuses and next steps in their care while also helping hospital staff manage communication and patient flow.

Vital has expanded into hospital systems across the United States, with its technology being used by dozens of hospitals.

Patzer continues to serve as Founder and CEO of Vital, focusing heavily on artificial intelligence and its use in healthcare.

In 2024, Patzer was recognized by Slice of Healthcare as one of its Top 35 Leaders in Digital Health.

Legacy

From Central High School in Evansville to founding one of the best-known personal finance websites of the Internet era, Patzer has built a career around technology, software and entrepreneurship.

His companies Mint, Fountain and Vital have focused on simplifying complicated industries ranging from personal finance to healthcare, making Patzer one of the more successful technology entrepreneurs with ties to Evansville.
