Patrick “Pat” Schulz (born November 30, 1970) is a former professional baseball player from Evansville, Indiana who became one of the most accomplished players in the history of the University of Evansville baseball program.
Reitz Memorial High School
Schulz grew up in Evansville and attended Reitz Memorial High School, where he played baseball before continuing his career at the University of Evansville.
His older brother, Jeff Schulz, also attended Reitz Memorial before playing at the University of Southern Indiana and eventually reaching Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates.
University of Evansville
Schulz played for the Evansville Purple Aces from 1990 through 1993 and developed into one of the top offensive players in school history.
He earned First-Team All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference honors in three consecutive seasons from 1991 through 1993.
Schulz had an outstanding junior season in 1992, batting .382 and leading the Aces with 83 hits. He was named the 1992 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year.
As a senior in 1993, Schulz was even better. He batted .410, scored 59 runs, collected 87 hits, hit 18 doubles and nine home runs, and earned All-American recognition.
Schulz was named an All-American in both 1992 and 1993, including Third-Team All-America honors in 1993.
He finished his four-year career as one of the most productive hitters ever to wear a Purple Aces uniform and remains the University of Evansville’s all-time career hits leader.
Professional Baseball
Following his senior season, Schulz was selected by the Cleveland Indians organization in 1993.
He continued his baseball career professionally in Cleveland’s minor-league system, although he did not reach the Major Leagues.
Hall of Fame
Schulz’s accomplishments at Evansville were formally recognized in 2003, when he was inducted into the University of Evansville Athletics Hall of Fame.
His combination of hitting, consistency and individual honors places him among the greatest players in the history of Purple Aces baseball.
Schulz Baseball Family
Baseball has remained a major part of the Schulz family in Evansville.
Pat’s brother, Jeff Schulz, played professionally and reached the Major Leagues after starring at USI.
Pat’s son, Simon Schulz, continued the family tradition at Reitz Memorial High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and earned All-SIAC honors in baseball.
In 2026, Simon became a member of the University of Evansville baseball team, following in his father’s footsteps as a Purple Ace.
Legacy
From Reitz Memorial High School to the University of Evansville, Pat Schulz built one of the finest baseball careers produced by an Evansville athlete.
A conference Player of the Year, two-time All-American, professional draft pick and UE Athletics Hall of Famer, Schulz remains especially prominent in Purple Aces history as the program’s all-time leader in career hits.
