Scott Cannon (born July 22, 1968) is a former American professional soccer player from Evansville, Indiana. A defender, Cannon played professionally in several American leagues, including Major League Soccer (MLS), and was named the 1999 USL Defender of the Year.

Evansville career

Cannon attended Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, where he was named an NSCAA High School All-American in both 1985 and 1986.

He remained in his hometown to attend the University of Evansville, playing for the Purple Aces men’s soccer team from 1986 to 1990. Cannon earned First-Team All-American honors in 1990 and was later inducted into the University of Evansville Athletics Hall of Fame.

Professional career

Cannon began his professional career in 1991 and played for numerous clubs across American professional soccer. In 1996, he was selected by the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer’s inaugural player draft. He later played in MLS for the Columbus Crew and Tampa Bay Mutiny.

Cannon also had a successful career in the United Soccer League, most notably with the Richmond Kickers. He was named USL Defender of the Year and earned First-Team All-League honors in 1999.

Following his playing career, Cannon remained involved in soccer as a youth coach and director.
